COVID-19 - Mental & Physical Health
UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2021
Sessions with me in Banbury and London are currently a hybrid of virtual and face to face work. The balance of these will be reviewed again in January 2022. I am planning a sabbatical leave from the end of March 2022 until the beginning of October 2022. As I work towards this, I am currently only able to make short term arrangements with new people (up to six sessions with review), if space is available.
If you may be interested in exploring working with me from October 2022, I will be checking email communications periodically between April-September 2022.
I attach an article I wrote in April 2020 reflecting on the impact of trauma in the wake of the pandemic and beyond.
Welcome to my counselling & psychotherapy website
I am a counsellor, psychotherapist and supervisor with over twenty five years experience. I have two private practices, in Central London (Bond Street) and Banbury in Oxfordshire.
I also work as an Outpatient Psychotherapist for the trauma healing clinic Khiron House.
I work with individuals and couples who want to make changes in their lives. I am highly skilled to listen and accept you as you are. I would hope to be able to shed light on the root of the difficulty and help you work through painful life events and situations.
This website aims to introduce you to me and my work and to answer some of the questions you might have about counselling and psychotherapy.
If you would like to enquire further I would be pleased to speak with you over the phone or correspond by email about the counselling and psychotherapy service I provide.
I work with individuals & couples on a short or longer term basis
The kinds of triggering events that I work with may be a bereavement, a broken relationship, problems at work or an addiction. Sometimes it is less clear to work out why you are unhappy but the opportunity to speak confidentially to a qualified practitioner can be immensely relieving.
It is not unusual for an individual to understand a lot about their emotional difficulties but they can find themselves locked into repeating patterns and can feel powerless to change them. It can be that these recurring patterns that cause distress can be addressed and understood within the safety of a therapeutic relationship.
What is counselling or psychotherapy?
Counselling or psychotherapy offers you the opportunity to talk, confidentially, to a qualified practitioner who is trained to listen to you carefully and understand and accept you. It offers you a safe place to help you to think more clearly about your difficulties and understand your feelings. Together we will try to think about you and what is causing your unhappiness.
Though it can take courage, a therapy process can be enlightening and enable you to find new tools to manage your life and problems and feel less stuck in patterns that are not working for you. Here are some other details about the way I work. Each session lasts 50 minutes and will usually be on the same day and at the same time each week.
Counselling is generally a shorter process and psychotherapy generally more in depth for a more substantial time.
Your first session
In your first session we would talk about and give space to the things that are concerning you. I would be interested to know something of your history and story as well as your current life.
Our discussion would also focus on your hopes for what you might like to change. You would also have the chance to ask me about counselling and psychotherapy.
After this assessment session, I would be able to tell you whether I feel I am an appropriate person to help you and you would have the opportunity to reflect on whether I am the person you would like to work with. Undertaking counselling or psychotherapy is a big decision, so it is very important to find the right person to work with. You may wish to visit a number of practitioners for an initial consultation and trust your intuition in selecting the person right for you. Also at the assessment, we might talk about how long your process might be. It is not possible to be exact about this, but I would hope to be able to give you some indication.
